Company honored for top safety performance reflective of its Our Journey to Zero strategy
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP today announced it has received seven annual safety awards from American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM). The company’s plant in Borger, Texas, was honored with AFPM’s top Distinguished Safety Award, which celebrates companies with lasting safety performance at the highest levels. This marked the first time the Borger plant received this recognition.
Overall, four Chevron Phillips Chemical plants in Texas achieved high marks by AFPM for 2019 safety performance. In addition to the Borger team, the Alamo (Conroe), Orange and Port Arthur sites received the Safety Achievement Award, which honors sites that attain an employee and contractor total recordable incident rate of 0.35 or less in a given year. Further, the Alamo (Conroe) and Orange locations again received the Elite Silver Safety Award, presented to the top 5 percent of U.S. refining and petrochemical plants based on personal and process safety results.

These awards advance Chevron Phillips Chemical’s long history of operational excellence. The company retains a top-quartile safety record among peer member companies for combined employee and contractor recordable incident rates, based on available data reported by the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care program. The company also is active in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program, with all 18 wholly-owned U.S. facilities designated as OSHA VPP Star Sites. Chevron Phillips Chemical was also the 2019 recipient of ACC’s Responsible Care Initiative of the Year Award for its Our Journey to Zero strategy.
