When you’re registering for fall classes and packing to move back to campus, it’s also time to check out internships for next summer. And, no matter what your major is, Chevron Phillips Chemical should be at the top of your list of internship prospects.
In honor of National Intern Day today, CPChem is celebrating the contributions of its 2023 summer interns and highlighting their experiences with the company as recruiters prepare to visit college campuses all over the country again this fall.
2023 summer interns like Mallory Krutilek, Payton Crawford, Ashlyn Taylor, and Timothy Ford said they’ve gotten valuable experience at CPChem in a welcoming, nurturing workplace culture.
“With this being my first intern experience, I believe I have grown significantly in my professional abilities,” said Mallory, a supply chain intern at CPChem who is majoring in supply chain management at Texas A&M. “I have been able to be creative within my project scope and to deliver results for the Business Systems and Analytics group.”
Payton, a Human Resources intern at CPChem from Auburn University in Alabama, is among this summer’s interns whose major is not specific to chemical manufacturing.
“Chevron Phillips is a company that gives back to their employees. They care about personal development and providing advancement opportunities,” Payton said. “My favorite part about coming into work is knowing I have tremendous support from my coworkers.”
Ashlyn Taylor, a civil engineer intern from North Carolina A&T State University, has enjoyed working at CPChem this summer because of the company’s emphasis on diversity of employees and perspectives.
“CPChem is a diverse environment that allows workers to not be confined to one thing or discipline,” Ashlyn said. “Everyone is very supportive and makes sure that you know that any opportunity can be a learning opportunity.”
Safety is extremely important in the petrochemical industry, and Timothy Ford, an associate change manager intern from Howard University in Washington, D.C., has been impressed by CPChem’s commitment to this core value.
“Chevron Phillips is a caring company that truly puts their employee’s safety first before anything else,” Timothy said. “I have had many internships and jobs before, but this is the first time I have ever seen safety being this important.”
How do I get an internship at CPChem?
CPChem’s recruitment team goes to many different schools across the United States to attend fall semester campus and virtual career fairs. Prospective interns should check with their campus for opportunities to meet with our recruitment teams.
In its nationwide search for candidates, CPChem looks for individuals with many different backgrounds and interests. As a chemical manufacturing company, we have many positions that will appeal to majors that our team of recruiters search for to fill positions at CPChem locations across Texas and Oklahoma.
What do CPChem interns do?
CPChem interns spend 10 to 12 weeks in the summer at various CPChem locations working on projects associated with their majors and fields of interest. The positions summer interns hold also deepen their skills and knowledge by providing them with a professional working environment. The Graduate Rotation and Development (GRAD) program offers recent college grads a chance to work in multiple departments and sites over several months at CPChem.
In addition, CPChem interns can build connections with CPChem’s full-time employees and learn from professionals who value their professional development.
What advice do current interns and CPChem recruiters have for future interns at CPChem? "I would encourage them to ask as many questions as they can and get to know what the position can offer them and their career," said Ryan Lin, a maintenance engineer intern at CPChem’s Pasadena facility this summer and a student at The University of Texas majoring in mechanical engineering. “The recruiting team was very welcoming towards me and made sure to cover questions I had about my time here before I arrived.”
Alicia Spitzer, the University Relations Representative at CPChem, who coordinates and attends campus recruiting events, said she hopes students will attend several campus recruiting events to find a good fit.
“My advice to any potential intern applicants is to be yourself and take advantage of any recruitment opportunity to engage with recruiters,” she said. “At CPChem, you have access to top leaders, managers, and mentors, so don't be afraid to ask questions and get involved in any way you can.”
