Chevron Phillips Chemical Company Brings Science Trailblazer to Houston

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP is partnering with the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME) to bring hands-on science experiments to sixth grade students across Houston this fall.

TAME's traveling Trailblazer consists of a 40-foot trailer packed full of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) exhibits. Within the course of an hour, approximately 200 students will get to experience the wonders of science through activities focused on energy, space, weather, biotechnology/medicine and aerodynamics.

Chevron Phillips Chemical has sponsored school visits from the TAME Trailblazer since 2014, and this year will host its largest number of visits to sixth graders near five of its facilities.

"The TAME Trailblazer is a terrific way to support students' interests in STEM education using innovative experiments and displays," said Roy Watson, workforce development and training manager at Chevron Phillips Chemical. "The petrochemical industry is full of job opportunities, many of which are tied to STEM-related fields. The Trailblazer allows students to discover whether or not a STEM education might be a good fit for them and their career aspirations."

The TAME Trailblazer will begin its Houston-area tour on October 23 and run through November 16, with visits in Baytown, Pasadena, Sweeny and Orange, TX.
