THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS - (December 7, 2015) - Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) is launching its Super Cool Career Shades Challenge and inspiring students to think big about their future careers.
"The horizon is bright for the petrochemical and manufacturing sector, meaning a more robust economy with higher-skilled and higher-paying jobs, particularly in areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (or STEM)," said Peter Cella, president and CEO of Chevron Phillips Chemical. "We want to know what careers students see in their own bright future."
To enter, participants must post a photo, video or original artwork to Instagram with a brief response to the question "What do you see for your future career" using the hashtag #supercoolcareershades and #sweepstakes. Students must be between the ages of 13-18, and live in southeast Texas. The deadline for entry is February 29, 2016.
Chevron Phillips Chemical will randomly select a grand prize winner and 3 first place winners from all eligible entries. The grand prize winner will receive $2,000 for his/her school science program and an iPad Mini; three runners up will each receive $250 for their school science program and a $50 Visa gift card. For sweepstakes official rules visit www.cpchem.com/supercoolcareershades.
The Super Cool Career Shades Challenge runs in conjunction with Chevron Phillips Chemical's participation in the Junior Achievement's JA Inspire program—a series of career awareness events reaching more than 30,000 seventh and eighth graders across Houston-area school districts beginning December 14.
The JA Inspire program was created to support Texas House Bill 5 which passed in 2013 in an effort to improve public school education by expanding curriculum options. As a result, eighth graders across Texas must now select a high school endorsement track, such as STEM, before entering 9th grade.
JA Inspire provides an interactive experience that exposes eighth grade students to the vast variety of local career opportunities to better prepare them for their endorsement selection. A schedule of events for the 2015-2016 school year is below.
