The award is presented each year to companies that demonstrate outstanding achievement and leadership in environmental, health, safety and security (EHS&S) performance.

Companies that compete for the Responsible Care® Company of the Year award must meet or exceed Responsible Care® performance requirements including: safety ratings in the top 10 percent of equally sized companies; no significant safety incidents in the previous year; sustained superior accomplishment in the areas of transportation safety, process safety and emissions reduction; as well as improvements in EHS&S performance, product stewardship, distribution safety and emergency preparedness.
