Performance Pipe Recognized for Outstanding Safety Mentorship

Knoxville, Tenn. (July 27, 2007) - Performance Pipe's Knoxville facility was awarded the Governor's Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety on Wednesday at the 30th Annual Tennessee Safety and Health Congress, held at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville.

The Governor's Award honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours during a calendar year without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities.

"Performance Pipe shows a continued dedication to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace," said James Neeley, Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development commissioner. "This year makes the fourth consecutive year the company has earned this award."

Performance pipe, a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical), employs 77 people in Knoxville. The facility was awarded the Governor's Award by working more than 650,000 man hours without either lost time or a restricted duty incident since 2003. Performance Pipe received the Governor's Award in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Performance Pipe's Knoxville plant is one of the state's volunteer STAR (Safety Through Accountability and Recognition) sites, which is the state's highest honor for workplace safety and health.

The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Safety Awards Program is designed to stimulate interest in accident prevention and to promote safety. The program recognizes manufacturing and construction firms throughout the state that achieve and maintain a safe and healthful workplace.

Performance Pipe is a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, LP. Performance Pipe's Knoxville facility is situated on 12 acres of land in the eastern region of Tennessee and produces high and medium-density polyethylene for use in Gravity flow and pressure pipe systems designed for landfill, coal bed and natural gas gathering systems, as well as underground gas distribution pressure pipe systems, water and wastewater distribution pressure pipe systems, process piping, and slurry and tailings lines in the mining industry throughout North America.
