Petrochemical Academy to Provide Students with Core Industry Skills

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (February 1, 2011) - Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC's (Chevron Phillips Chemical) Board of Directors has elected Peter L. Cella to the office of president and chief executive officer of the company, effective February 8, 2011. Cella replaces Greg Garland, who joined ConocoPhillips as senior vice president, exploration & production, Americas.

Cella has strong commercial and financial experience in the chemicals and petrochemicals industry. Before his election to president and CEO, Cella served as senior vice president, petrochemicals for BASF Corporation.  His prior experience also includes serving as chief executive officer of Ineos Nitriles, part of the Ineos Group, a position he was named to in 2005. From 2004 to 2005, Cella served as senior vice president of Innovene, LLC.  From 1999 to 2004, he held various positions with BP, P.L.C., as business unit leader of global olefin specialties and derivatives, president of fabrics and fibers, and manager of chemicals planning and strategy.

Following his studies, Cella was recruited to Amoco Corporation, where he held various financial and business analyst positions between 1981 and 1988.  From 1988 to 1990, he was an acquisitions manager and a business development manager in Chicago, Illinois.  In 1990, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and held the position of business manager for lightweight nonwovens. From 1992 to 1993, he was manufacturing manager of foam products. In 1993, he became business manager of polybutene in Chicago, Illinois.  Between 1995 and 1996, he was manager of integration, olefins and derivatives acquisitions.  In 1996, he served as marketing manager of packaging, fiber and film for the chemical intermediates business.

Cella received a bachelor of science degree in finance from the University of Illinois in 1979 and a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University in 1981.

Other management changes were also announced effective February 1, 2011. 

Tim Taylor has been named to the newly established position of chief operating officer reporting to the company's president and chief executive officer.  In his new role, Taylor will be responsible for the olefins & polyolefins; specialties, aromatics & styrenics; and manufacturing organizations. Prior to being named chief operating officer, Taylor served as executive vice president, olefins & polyolefins.

Mark Haney, formerly senior vice president of specialties, aromatics & styrenics, has been named executive vice president, olefins & polyolefins.

Mark Lashier has been named senior vice president, specialties, aromatics & styrenics. Prior to being named to this position, Lashier served as vice president, corporate planning and development.

Haney and Lashier will report to Taylor.
