JUBAIL, Saudi Arabia (June 19, 2008) - Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC's (Chevron Phillips Chemical) S-Chem facility has been awarded the 2007 First Place Award for Environmental Performance by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Royal Commission.
The award is presented annually to companies that demonstrate progressive environmental policy and sustainable development efforts within the Kingdom. It honors those in the industry committed to the cause of environmental stewardship, and whose efforts exceed Royal Commission regulations.
"This outstanding achievement was made possible by the efforts of our leadership here at S-Chem, and by each employee's steadfast commitment to safety," said Elija Andjelich, president of S-Chem. "The award also reflects our company's desire to be at the forefront of environmental awareness and performance, while promoting sustainable development."
S-Chem has consistently demonstrated outstanding environmental awareness, having been awarded the Royal Commission's second place and third place awards in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
Each year, the Royal Commission evaluates the performance of industries within the industrial cities, based on five basic criteria: compliance, cooperation, environmental issues, initiatives and environmental team efforts. Industrial facilities located in the Jubail and Yanbu Industrial Areas are governed by environmental regulations set by the Kingdom's Royal Commission.
