We are proud to introduce Marlex® Anew™ Circular Polyethylene, made using advanced recycling technology and certified through the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification PLUS (ISCC PLUS) process. Through advanced recycling, we are now able to convert waste plastics into a new product line of high-quality circular polyethylene resins.
Marlex® Anew™ Circular Polyethylene is a cutting-edge product that embodies our commitment to helping the world find sustainable solutions and eliminate plastic waste in the environment. The advanced recycling technology leveraged by Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) enables us to produce circular polyethylene from waste plastics. We are targeting an annual production volume of 1 billion lbs. of Marlex® Anew™ Circular Polyethylene by 2030.
“The success and certification of our advanced recycling program reinforces CPChem’s drive to cultivate a circular economy for plastics. CPChem continues to develop approaches that generate value from plastic waste and I am confident we will maintain a leadership role in delivering sustainable solutions long after we achieve our 2030 goal.”
– Jay Bickett, vice president of polymers and sustainability
Advanced recycling, sometimes referred to as “chemical recycling,” converts plastic waste to valuable liquids that can become new petrochemicals. This approach complements traditional recycling by converting a range of materials, including many difficult-to-recycle plastics, into important building blocks for new chemicals. Because of the potential to repeatedly recycle post-use plastics into new materials, polymers produced through advanced recycling are often referred to as “circular polymers.” Our circular polyethylene matches the performance and safety specifications of the virgin polymers Chevron Phillips Chemical is known for globally.

“All recycling methods have a role to play in reducing plastic waste and achieving the societal sustainability goals we all want. This advanced recycling technology allows us to recover hydrocarbons from plastic waste that have previously been difficult, or even impossible to recycle, enabling us to upgrade them into clean, safe circular plastics. We are excited to be at the forefront of this technology as we seek to implement sustainable solutions that cultivate a circular economy.”
– Ron Abbott, sustainability technical manager
End-to-end certified, circular product
Marlex® Anew™ Circular Polyethylene is ISCC PLUS certified. The internationally recognized ISCC PLUS certification verifies that Chevron Phillips Chemical meets the high standards required to hold the certificate, providing customers of Marlex® Anew™ Circular Polyethylene with added confidence in the certified circular product. This certification reflects our committed and growing efforts to create sustainable streams for waste plastics. Our Cedar Bayou facility in Baytown, TX currently producing Marlex® Anew™ Circular Polyethylene, is Chevron Phillips Chemical’s first location to receive the ISCC PLUS certification, a status we expect for additional sites as they are added to our expanding advanced recycling program.
