Sustainability - Community

We maintain a caring culture that thrives on the diversity of our employees, customers, and communities. People are the most significant contributors to the sustainability and success of our company. We believe that building and maintaining sound relationships with our communities makes us a better, stronger company, and good community relations are built on trust, respect and responsibility. We make every effort to conduct operations in a safe, clean, responsible manner, and we encourage our employees to volunteer their time and talents to making positive changes everywhere we live and work.

Health and Safety

The health and safety of our employees, contractors, neighbors and environment are of paramount importance to us. We believe safety is a shared responsibility, and it is central to everything we do.

Our Journey to Zero

Our multi-year EHS strategy, “Our Journey to Zero,” is a blueprint for protecting personnel events, and a prime example of our brand philosophy: Performance by design. Caring by choice.™ We’ve streamlined our work processes and improved safety leadership at all levels, introducing required manufacturing standards across our facilities. With these key improvements, our path forward is focused and will pave the way for even more safety progress.

Responsible Care®

As a member of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), we participate in the Responsible Care® program. In 2018, the ACC recognized our EHS strategy, “Our Journey to Zero,” with the Responsible Care® Initiative of the Year Award. The winner of this award is selected by attendees at the ACC’s annual Responsible Care and Sustainability Conference; it’s the only ACC award in which the winning company is chosen by its peers.

Employee and Contractor Health and Safety

Our exemplary record for employee and contractor health and safety is the result of diligent effort and constant vigilance on the part of our personnel at every level — especially the members of our EHS team. The results of their commitment and dedication have been recognized by numerous industry awards from organizations including:

  • Texas Chemical Council (TCC)
  • American Chemistry Council (ACC)
  • American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM)
  • International Rescue and Emergency Care Association (IRECA)

Operational Excellence

Our commitment to operating in a safe and responsible manner is exemplified by our Operational Excellence System (OES) — a global framework for managing the health and safety of our employees and contractors as well as operating responsibly within our communities. With its “plan-do-check-act” methodology, OES helps us conduct our business in a safe, secure, injury-free and environmentally responsible manner, reducing operational risks and promoting regulatory compliance.

Plastics and You

Plastics play a vital role in our economy, and many of the everyday products we depend on would be impossible without them. Even so, they must be made and used responsibly. We want everyone within and beyond our communities to understand the many sustainable advantages that plastics offer — and what we’re doing to keep plastic waste out of the environment and encourage responsible recycling. “Plastics and You” is a series of materials intended for U.S. and international audiences of all ages, with information and activities designed to educate and entertain.
